Well Project Uupdate
Nelson Contracting (Lyons, Nebraska) started work on the water distribution system December 14th. Isolation valves were replaced, and concrete patches on Poplar Street were poured before the big snow storm hit. Weather permitting, the contractors plan to continue on with the project. Water service will be interrrupted from time to time. Please keep emergency rations of water on hand for outages. Watch for advisories on the electronic sign board. You may contact City Hall at 712-946-5645 where a daily update will be posted on the answering machine. Also, if you wish to receive e-mail updates about the project, please contact City Hall at salixiowa@longlines.com. We will make every attempt to keep you informed about the project and keep inconveniences to a minimum.
Missouri River Historical Development
The City was recently asked to participate in the 20 year celebration of MRHD grant awards. Fayann Hubert prepared a beautiful presentation of all projects that were funded my MRHD. City of Salix projects inclued:
- Playground Equupment (1995) $2,500
- Softball & Multipurpose Field (1996) $2,500
- Park Restroom & Kitchenette (1996) $2,763
- Sanitary Sewer Valve Repair (2002) $8,851
- Electronic Message Board (2008) $10,000
- Other Salix Projects $33,975
That is over $60,000 spent in Salix alone in the past 15 years. MRHD is the non-profit sponsor for Argosy Casino-Sioux City and their vision is "to improve the quality of life of all people in Woodbury County". Sioux City's Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center is also a product of MRHD, with over 300,000 visitors each year.
The Bloodbank is Coming to Salix
The Siouxland Community Bloodbank will be accepting donations on Thursday, January 14th from 3:00 to 7:00pm at the community room.
From the Mayor
During snow emergencies, all vehicles must be moved to off-street parking. Vehicles that remain on the streets will be towed.
Thanks to all who have moved your vehicles during snow removal operations. It works so much easier when Bill can clean the streets without obstacles to go around. He puts in long hours during snow storms and sure appreciated all the help he can get.
Linda M. Cox
Thank You
MidAmerican Energy Company has donated $250 towards the expenses relating to a new paint job for the park buildings (restrooms, dug-outs, maintenance shed). Many, many thanks to MidAmerican Energy for their long-standing and continued support.

NOTE
Meters were not read this month due to the large amount of snow. The billing amount was "averaged" this month.
